Hi,

Any procedural way to make zigzag cut by masking alpha or other way…?

Regards,
Imran.

Hi Imran,

I barely can see a thing with the image. Yes, I see a zig zag on the right side, but I have no clue about the underlaying polygons.

Select the part of the zig zag area and straighten it in UV, would be my first thought, but that is guessing only based on too little information.

Does the material has any thickness or is that not visible? Alpha will not work if the material has any 3rd dimension.

Let me know

Here is another google search image…. hope its clear.

Polygon model will be straight at the end cut and that I know make zigzag moving point by point.

I am looking some procedural way… some shaders in layers by blending settings to make zigzag and mask it. if client will ask make small or bigger it will be easy in procedural way to set other wise reducing or increasing by polygons…. better jump from window.

Regards.

Hi Imran,

Yes, I have seen zig-zag cuts wink that was not the problem. I have not seen your model nor a scene file.
(Please note that I have worked for a several years as a product designer with 200 packages produced.)

So I can only guess, which I always find far from professional, as I have to make assumption, which then might be corrected, and if not complete we ping pong information.
Anyway, here is an example:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/VVpfo2lRJjdNReZrzEzSUlqKJLOFag84X02DRFzavLS

Create a single triangle texture, and tile it, while limiting it to the polygon selection. The Top material (on the right) needs to be set a Mix Texture.

Here is an alternative:

Based on a series that I made a while ago. Similar to that could work the CV-Selections.

Wow… Very nice, Thanks for CV Selection tutorial.

I was trying every second polygon selection. You tried there on 21x21 polygons… I was trying 20x20 and tried different height segments… but every time selection in vertical rows… any idea to select every second in 20x20 segment.

Regards.

Hi Imran,

The tutorials itself focus on Polygons, Here, in the one minute clip, I do that with points, to get the zig zag.

The idea is to set up a “dummy” that gives you exactly the order of points that is needed. If that is set up correctly, the Selection Tag has a record of that, then it is moved to the object in use, and the selection will work. It can be that the dummy object might be in 20 segments (21 points) and 1 segment (2 points). or One segment times 20. (Twenty segments desrcibe 21 points. Even or odd is the initial inspection that needs to be happen.

You might check out the CV Parametric Selection Scripts. (Today I was searching it in CV-Tools, but of course it is a script and doesn’t show up there.) Here it is
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaylist/cv-parametric_selection_tag/cv-parametric_selection_tag_download_and_install

Perhaps a better way even, since you showed in the image polygons. (My suggestion was points!) While going from Polygons to Points, hold the shift key.

All the best

P.S. here is the key moment from the clip, the production of the selection, see image

You’re very welcome, Imran, thanks for the nice feedback.

Let me know if there is another question.

Cheers
