Mograph grid array size parameter

Hello

I notice that I spend a lot of time trying to get a good balance between the Mograph Cloner/Grid Array Count parameter and the size parameter.
I’m wondering if there is a way to have the size adapt to the count so that if you add more clones, you don’t have to manually change the count.
A looooong time ago I watched a tutorial on something unrelated and there was a coffee script the author used to do this, but I have no idea what that was…

Thanks!

Hi Alex,

I assume that would not be solve-able wit the Attribute Manager> Object> Mode> Endpoint /Per Step

I’m not clear if I follow here. The size is here the size of the clones or the size of the grid? If the grid in relation to the scale of the clones, scale per axis, or total scale. Total scale might be already given with the Pus Apart Effector >Mode> Scale Apart

Xpresso comes to mind.

Would you mind to given an example?

Cheers

Ha, I guess I missed the “per step” option for all these years!
Yes, that was exactly what I was looking for, but it still requires you to set an initial distance between the clones.
So imagine you have a cube that is 50x50x50cm.  You drop it in a cloner, and set it to grid array.  What you will end up having is a large mass of cubes intersecting each other.  What I’m looking for is a way to immediately get the right “size” so that all the clones are just far enough apart that they touch each other but don’t interesect.
Does that make sense?

Thanks for the extra Information, I hope I use the right “size” below (Size -per step or size of the object)

Scene file:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/skC1dRhT1wdW0aM2opTjR5Unc3HtCsrswxxAohtaq4y

It is a little bit difficult with Primitives, as they have different ways to set the size, but Polygons are simpler. Click on the XPresso Tag>Attribute Manager User Data.

If this XPresso Tag works, you can save it Object Manager> File> Save Tag preset

All the best

P.S.: Just to have mentioned it – While the Object is selected (e.g., Cloner), you can set your preferred values and then
Attribute Manager> Edit> Set as Default.

You’re welcome, Alex.

You could also set up any group, select the Parent and use the Object Manager> File> Save Object Present. If properly named, this will get very fast.

To get even faster, you could just create a “one-line” Python script (yes one line, besides the given lines), and that allows for an Icon or even a short cut (Customize Commands)

Screen Capture (test this carefully, I just made this clip, I’m not certain if that three digit number is fixed or if it will change if one adds or deletes things)
