4k footage into Motion Tracker

Hi Cineversity,

I’m a Beginner with Motion Tracking. I received 4k footage, I imported 4k footage (tiff sequence or quicktime) into C4d’s motion tracker (version 19).

My render settings are setup for 4k size, frame rate 23.976.

but in Motion Trackers “Footage” section - “Fim Aspect” option, I don’t see 4k listed, when I select “Custom” in the pulldown, it does not settle on custom, it goes back to HD.

Just curious, should I only use HD, or the parameters listed?

Or ignore what I see as limited options and continue working in 4k.

Thanks for your help, I hope you’re all safe despite what I see going on in California!

Happy Holidays,

TCG

Hi TCG,

The aspect ratio is not labeled as 4K or UHD, but it doesn’t matter, as this is only a parameter setting of the width to hight of the footage. UHD is twice in both direction compared to HD (1920x1080)
In other words, it you have footage that has a resolution of 3840x1600, then you would need to use the Custom and type in 2.4 (Cinemascope) or 2.39… for 3840x 1606, 4096x1714, etc.
But for UHD 3840x2160, the HD setting should do.

BTW, the typical Film-scan in 4K is:
4096x3112 (ACS Manual 10th edition), or in 2K 2048x1556. 4:3

Todays common 4K labeled formats for video:

Ultra-high-definition television   3840 × 2160   1.78:1 (16:9)
Ultra-wide-television   3840 × 1600   2.4:1
DCI 4K (native resolution)  4096 × 2160   1.90:1

DCI 4K (CinemaScope cropped)  4096 × 1714   2.39:1
DCI 4K (flat cropped)  3996 × 2160   1.85:1

All examples are for square pixels

And there are certainly some more wink

As a side note, to get the lens-profile correct, this aspect ratio setting is crucial.

Thanks for the concerns about the fires, it is really nothing to take easy. But even the largest is today at 35% containment.

All the best
