Import animation from Cinema 4D without AEC

I am used to exported .AEC files and then importing them.

I am having crashing issues and would like to see if there is a newer option.  I tried “Cinema 4D Scene Data [Extract] “, but no animation came through.  The objects are parented and constrained, so no actual key-frames exist.

Should there normally be animation when extracting?

edit:  I attached a file combo that shows cubes with external compositing but bring no information besides camera data.

Hi SethO,

If you can’t reduce the file to the bare minimum to show the problem, then please try this file:

Scene file C4D/AeCC
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/tZqgVzfJEyV6M8QKb52BtWnzxZZOhOXbDqms9dCRWXm

I checked both sides, and I get the information across.
Let me know if that works for you.

All the best

I just saw your edit.

The manual states the following:

CINEMA 4D Scene Data
Extract
All cameras and lights in a given CINEMA 4D scene, including their animations and properties, will be transferred to the After Effects composition as layers in the Timeline.
Polygon objects that have an External Compositing tag assigned to them will be placed as NULL layers as position references in the composition or generated as color surfaces.

No idea why only polygons are targeted. One could always place an empty polygon object, containing the PSR animation, and have it a parent to anything.

In the moment you make these objects editable, the key frames will be extracted. Not the PSR Constrain Tag. For that you need to Parent for example your object in AeCC.

BTW, … appeared this problem with aec just recently, or after an update from Adobe? I tried all possible ways, I couldn’t re-create a crash, but if an update/fresh installation was done, and the C4Dimporter.plugin is missing, I get an expected error.
Here is an one minute clip showcasing the file you shared above:

If all of that isn’t working for you, please check with the support.

All the best
