From within your view panel menu items (upper left) go to the OPTIONS menu - CONFIGURE.
Then go to the ATTRIBUTES tab on the right side of your screen and select the BACK menu.
Here you will find the IMAGE option where you can insert your image.

Any other question? ...as you have answered yours already.

Sometimes it is also preferable to load this “guidance” image onto a plane, perhaps three of them for all three axis (or planes of there of [yz, yx, xz]
This can go then also to a Layer (Browser), to be managed in a simple way.

Which allows to easily adjust scales at once if needed.
