Hi

I can slide loops along my geometry using the slide tool but, Is it possible to Duplicate a point ( com / cntrl drag I mean ) and slide that along my geometry as well?

Is there another way of doing this I am overlooking, like say a snapping setting?

Cheers.

Hi Kiwi,

Works here. I have set the Preferences [Mac] as shown in the image (left).

How it works for me here, is shown in the short clip:

https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/cAj9wQX22gGWca89-vWorgSGQAGKSvui1SD-RVSgYwI?ref_=cd_share_link_copy_flash

As you can see, it has the tendency to introduce N-Gons, have an eye on that.

The image on the right shows the Help Content with additional information.

Let me know if that is what you are looking for. Selecting the edges which would be used for sliding along and use the “Edge-Cut”, might be an alternative.

Perhaps your question was about how to slide a SINGLE point AND copy it at the same time: Use a knife and cut the edge, as a copy will not change the edge “position”—this works as such. A copy of a single point can’t be done with the [Edge-] Slide Tool AFAIK.

All the best

Thanks Sassi.

I wanted to know about a single point. Shame we can’t do that.

The reason I asked was because I had a nice mesh with good topology, until I forgot “visible only” was turned off on my knife. So I had a whole host of tris to make back into quads, and I realised how much easier that process would be if you could copy and slide a single point along its vertex.

Incidentally, with the poly pen when I extrude an edge how do I constrain the movement?  Normally when you extrude and drag etc you hold down shift but, what is the method with the poly pen?

Thanks
Stu

Hi Stu,

Single point and knife—so you have used it already. :o) “Only Visible”—Yes, I know that feeling, happens.

BTW, the Pen Tool has an option as well for this:
Shift+clicking on an edge splits the edge by adding a point that can initially be moved along the length of the edge as a preview. Release the Shift key to position the point at any location. Click on an edge to affix the point.

To have an edge extruded with a specified angle, sounds more like the Extrude Tool to me.

With the Polygon Tool, the Snapping functions or Work-planes might be an idea.

I certainly suggest Donavan Keith’s series:

I just watched it, to not miss an option, as I couldn’t recall any directional option (as in Extrude>Edge Angle). No wonder I couldn’t, there is obviously none. ;o)—which is also confirmed checking the Help Content.

I hope that help a little bit.

All the best

Thanks Sassi.

I just assumed there was some obscure shortcut for constraining the axis which I could not find.

Will watch that series again and try the new info.

Thanks for the feedback, Stu.

Yes, sometimes there are some not documented short-cuts—so I try the usual suspects, but no luck here.

Perhaps a suggestion to Maxon might help to have that in future releases.
