Hi again, there are many tutorials on using a motion clip, and I am confused. Would you mind please recommending which ones to start out with? in the help section, I created a VERY simple object movement, and used this tool, but I am at a loss as to where to find the f-curve and key frames to modify . Also, where can I learn about “motion source”. As always, thank you for your time, Craig
The motion Clip and the film-editing “like” behavior of its use is relatively simple. Once you created a clip it is not really advised to change things in a clip, perhaps it was used already. If you like to change, make at least a copy of it. BUT, try this first, activate the clip in the timeline, and have a look to the Attribute manager (see image)—there you have a spline interface and this should be changed.
Think of it as film editing option, where things are done and you have the “celluloid” hanging in your basket (or thrown it on the floor (as the saying is). You do not change the actors speed inside the film. Roughly—like this.
My two cents: The quick and dirty explanation. Well that is the start-point for trouble, isn’t it. I see too often this kind of truncated information “re-sources”, and I think it leads to a clogged development on the long run. Kind of happy-people in the moment of solution, but stressed out artists in the future. Just my impression of the last decade teaching this stuff. /2cents.
Patrick does certainly a great job with his material. :o)
Thanks for the nice feedback.
Let me know if there is anything else, as I also believe that any “black hole’ in the knowledge, will slow the learning process down, even small black holes, thehehe.
P.S.: BTW, of course you can change the content of the Clip itself. RMC (right mouse click, here the yellow arrow) on it. See image. As I mentioned—I do not suggest that, e.g., if that clip is elsewhere in use or if the original aniamtion might pop up at one point again. Change a copy or the the source. Either way, have a look at the image. :o)
However, feel always free to create some content in the “Request a Tutorial” forum.
Hi Dr. Sassi, me again. I did view your intro to Motion clips tutorial, thank you.Of all the tutorials on CV regarding this topic, would you mind please suggesting which ones in priority, would be the best way to learn, from the bottom up, in other words?, thank you
Hi Dr. Sassi, viewing now, the motion clip tutorials-in C4D R16, I do not see an option for creating many loops, as in the tutorial. There is an option for looptime w/checkbox, in motion view window, but that is it. Where can I create any number of loops?, thx
BTW Dr. Sassi, I am following Rick’s advice, and ending my “ball rotation ” at 29 f, instead of 30f, and my sphere does stop for a brief second, then continues to roll through out the 90s after looping 2X. Why is that? he recommends using 29 and not 30f to avoid this, what do you suppose I am dong wrong?-thx sphereRoll.c4d

Craig, I found the part where Rick mentions the 29 vs 30 suggestion. (In the tutorial at 04:30)
The idea is that frame zero and 30 have the same value. So if you loop you would like for such an animation to have the first repetition starting at frame “30”, otherwise the first repetition would be at frame “31” and repeat the value of frame 30.
Why it stops in your case, I would love to give a precise answer, please share your file. (Is the forum not willing to let you attach a file, may I ask to use Drop Box? Or let me know what else we can do). I like to have linear interpolations for loops, e.g., constant rotations, but the example below doesn’t have that, so I hope it comes closer to your set up. For an up and down ball, it should be a something else, as the ball doesn’t slows down when it hits the floor, but if it becomes squeezed, then yes, more like a sine curve
I have attached a scene file, perhaps that will clear it.
Please let me know if there is anything not clear, I really like you to feel savvy with it.
