I’m modeling with r16 and while working I noticed a new layer appeared. I have tried deleting the layer and it just pop’s back up automatically.

Its called “default” when it appears and i’ve changed the name and moved it only to have another “default” layer appear at the top of the layer tree.

Strange as all hell. I am not using any third party tools or plug-ings other than GSG HDRI & Light Kit. The GSG has never done that in the past and I was using it for a while before this layer issue started to appear.

I can’t find anything in any available recourse about it.

You exclude any plug-in, so it happens even if you are only using native stuff. Sorry, plug ins are used here only if needed (none are installed so far on R16).

I have created a new document to see if it happens from scratch and it does. I have also noticed that if I create anything. A sphere, polygon it automatically gets added to this “default” layer even if its at the bottom and not selected.

I can not figure out how to stop it. I have changed the layout but its the same. It shows up with all new documents I create. I’m at a lose here.

I have attached a new document. I did nothing but just press new document. It has the “default” in there.

try to delete it and see if it pops back up for you.

I don’t know if I pressed by mistake a combo of keys too trigger this set of events to happen.

Is the color always gray? Which would indicate that something is loading it. I never ever had a gray color chip so far, by just calling up a new Layer..

You could go to Scripts>Script Log and see what happens when you open a new document. Perhaps some script fragments are left and stored…

You might try to place a new.c4d file in the MAXON Folder, it is an old technique that I used a decade or so ago. Just delete the Layer and save instantly, bore anything happens. If this is not possible, perhaps I can attach one.
Sometime some little residuals are stuck in something like this “template” and you get each new scene the same Cube or light or whatever. The new.c4d trick helps here.

If all of that leads to no improvements, please check with the support.

It seems I have some script running.

I ran CV Toolbox to install all the plugin’s but I did not set anything to run. I would make a default document but I would first need to turn off any script to make sure its a clean document template since right now any new document I make has this default gray layer in it.

Perhaps you check with the Support, as I’m not able to say with certainty that just deleting it will not destroy some other options that you liked to have with your original installation.

It shouldn’t be difficult to find the “.py” script in comabination with a content/text search, e.g., “300000116”

I figured out the issue. CV-Layer Comps is the cause of the problem.

I used Plugin Boss to removed the plugin’s until the problem went away. I don’t know why CV-Layer Comps does that new layer automatically but I know now to not use that plugin.
