Edit: This thread was split into two parts. So we keep the forum organized.
It looks on first glimpse a little bit picky, but on the long run you might enjoy a clean and organized forum. Think of an upcoming deadline of one of your projects, and of course a problem at that time. Then search in a messy forum, sounds great, right? :o) /edit

You’re welcome, Jerome Olivier!

I hope I did sounded friendly with my explanation, just housekeeping. :o)

Of course.  The only reason I haven’t posted my question on lesson 4 yet is I decided to take a little break and do some photography.  ;^)

Hello,

I’m currently following the xpresso 101 series and after watching lesson 4, came up with an idea that I’ve been trying to figure out.

I have a scene with a red ball and a green cross.  When the ball’s distance comes to within 100 cm of the cross, the cross’s scale reduces until finally reaching 0 when the distance between the ball and the cross is also 0.

That’s easy.

Now I want to do the same thing with five white crosses.  From what I can gather, I need to understand how to use iterations, but after watching two different tutorials on the subject, I’m still at a loss.  Included is a scene file that illustrates what I’ve managed to do on my own and what I’m trying to achieve.

If anybody can help…

Thank you, Jerome Olivier.

Very nice collection of images, nice processing of the B&W.

I guess you might enjoy my series “Photography for 3D Artists”.

Hi Jerome Oliveir,

There are several way to solve this. Yes Iteration would be one.

The fastest way is to set the crosses (click the node) in the Attribute Manager to Relative (both nodes) and the red ball to Absolute. With that, you create one XPresso tag and copy it to the green crosses.

See file XP4b_01

The Iteration is also possible in several ways. I prefer the Link List, as it is a fixed list that works independently from anything in the Object Manager (OM), e.g., changes in the OM.

See file XP4b_11

You might explore the Mograph>Falloff node with both set ups, which allows for more spatial definitions. Just as a little challenge. ;o)

All the best

Sassi

P.S. direct questions to tutorials? There is a button on the tutorial page. For mixed questions of the series, this forum here, as you choose is the best. Thanks for opening a new thread.

Hello Jerome and Dr. Sassi,

I have split the thread where your conversation started about the tutorials in the Tutorial Suggestions Section. I then merged that thread with the new one that you started here, where you began working on Tutorial 4.

I apologize if there is any confusion.

Happy Learning!

Thank,s Michelle, for the needed housekeeping here!

So I you got my message. :o) I have no admin rights in the tutorial discussions forum, so I couldn’t do it.

I will add a little bit to my first post to make that split more clear.

Have a great start into your week.

Sassi

Thehehe, don’t you worry! :o)
It is all in good hands and not “really” work. But perhaps we need a “Mess-Up-Thread-Piggy-Bank” ;o)
So, having said that, back to the nodes and noodles (wires).

How are the files working for you?

My best wishes

Sassi

Nice work.

Thehehe, not the “Effector Falloff”, the Node called MoGraph>Falloff. ;o) Enjoy.

EDIT:

Uh oh.  This is a matrix.  Okay, maybe more than a few minutes…

Jerome Olivier,

Keep in mind, the Matrix is just a format in the wire. Most of the time, you need to know that it is requested from the nodes, but “they” take care of it.

Here is the slim-lined file about this feature. I know you are a “good sport” and open it after you found yours, or time is not available. My intention was here to show that XPresso offers several ways to get the same result. To have an idea that this is an option, experimenting is key. :o)

(Note that the Falloff seems to not move at all, but that is just the way it is set up, it stays in the middle, but works where ever the Matrix sends it.)

Enjoy

Sassi
