CV-VR 1080 works but 4k doesn’t

Hi,

VR Noob here. I tried rendering with CV-VR’s default Youtube 4k setting (3840*2106) and youtube seems to have difficulty with the video. Video appears distorted and top of the sphere is not wrapped by any texture. Here’s a link.

I tried rendering with all other settings the same, only changing the output resolution to 1920*1080. Everything seems to be working.

Any idea what went wrong? Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks.

Hi junjumbee,

Rick has done a detailed series about YouTube (and other platforms) upload and specifications:
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaylist/vr_video/render_virtual_reality_videos_with_cinema_4d_introduction_to_youtube_vr

(I guess the 3840x2106 (instead of 2160) was a typo and not the rendered format, not to nitpick only to make sure that this wasn’t the problem. Well, in Chrome I can see some VR but with a “letterbox” area.)

I checked, but I couldn’t find anything else on YouTube Help
https://www.youtube.com/user/YouTubeHelp/videos

The current “specs” are here
https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6316263?hl=en

All the best

Thanks for the quick reply.

I did follow Rick’s videos but still had trouble figuring out the cause. Here are the two files straight out of C4D. They look the same to me.

4k tif

Same thing also happened in my other CV-VR renders…

Is it safe to assume something went wrong in my AE comp?

Hi junjumbee,

Please check your PM (private messages/Cineversity), I have send you a link to a non public version of your file. I checked it with Rick’s instructions and did exactly as he said, but on Mac.

https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaylist/vr_video/render_virtual_reality_videos_with_cinema_4d_upload_360_vr_rendered_video

Have you done this step at 03:20?

Let me know if it works for you, it did for me on Google Chrome. Pause the video as it is very short.

All the best

Thanks! Good to know that the render is not broken. Phew.

I’ll take a look at the comp and YouTube Settings tomorrow.

Thanks for the feedback, junjumbee!

This is what I see, while captured with a 5K screen and shared in UHD.

My best wishes for your exploration tomorrow.

P.S.: I just checked it with my iPhone6+ and it worked great: in mono as well in stereo.

Managed to get the 4k working here as well.

The wrong render was done straight out of AE, instead of Media Encoder.

I also checked “the video is VR” box in Media Encoder. I’m using CC 2015.4 Relase. Build 10.4.26

Still not sure what exactly cause it but at least it’s working now.

AnywayTHANK YOU Dr Sassi. That’s super helpful!

This is great, junjumbee. :o)

I’m glad you made it working.

I used 2015.3 [13.8.1.38] for the example with your image. Media Encoder.
Funny, I just re-installed this version. Thanks for the tip, I have to check soon for the update.

My best wishes.
