import vertex paint data C4D R18

Hi,

I’ve received a .wrl file from a zbrush artist. I now want to adept the models he created in zbrush. Therefore he exported his files into .wrl. When I’m opening the file into c4d, I see the model. The problem is, that there’s no texture information available.

I know that he worked with vertex paint into zbrush to create his texture. Is there a way to get to the vertex paint data into c4d R18?

I’ve found a plugin that could maybe solve the problem (http://lesterbanks.com/2014/09/polypaint-pack-c4d-sees-release/) But I’m wondering if there any feature in R18 that could solve the problem.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Nelis,

Edit, in post #3 I have linked a one minute clip about/edit

I’m not very familiar with Z-Brsuh, but isn’t it possible to export the model as FBX with Vertex Colors included and import it as FBX in R18 with Vertex colors checked?

When I paint color on an object in R18 as Vertex RGB and export and import it in a new file, the file looks the same.

To make this test easier, here is a link to the FBX and C4D file.

While importing the FBX, the Vertex color needs to be checked on.

All the best

P.S.: a screenshot from an imported FBX (the file linked from above, as a comparison)

… and from the ZBrush manual: FBX export Z-plug-ins.

11. If you wish to export PolyPaint make sure the Colorize button is on. You can turn this on quickly for all SubTools by Shift+clicking the paintbrush icon in the SubTool list.

Hi Nelis,

I had to get a trial version, learn the basics and create this little clip. I think it tells all there is to know about the very basics of ZBrush PolyPaint to C4D-R18 (Weight) Vertex Map Shader.

I hope this helps

Hi

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve asked the zbrush artist to export a fbx and it worked out perfectly like you described

Grtz
