Connecting all points between two planes with splines

Hello

I have two planes, each with 10 divisions.  The planes are offset in Y.
I want to have a spline leaving each polygon on plane 1 and going to the corresponsing polygon on plane 2. So basically have splines connecting both planes.  If I use a tracer and I set it to Connect all Objects, I only get one spline.

Now if I use two Matrix objects that each have 100 nodes, and I select Connect all objects, I get a connection between each node and one connection between Matrix 1 and Matrix 2….

I know I can do this with XParticles etc…But wondering if there is a way to do this with built in tools…

Thanks!
Alex

Hi Alex,

The way I would do it is via XPresso and iteration. It takes only two minutes or so to set up.  The amount of Splines can be created with a simple Spline, two points, and a Cloner Object set to the amount needed. Then made editable.

Then place that into the link List and ask for the Matrix Positions for point 0 and point 1 from the other Matrix.

All the best

Hi Alex,

Nice that this works for you.

Let me know if there is something else, I’m happy to look into it!

Perhaps check out this file below, it works like this, each frame the Plane.2 take the place of the “other” plane (Plane or Plane.1)
The Tracer traces points between those positions. I’m uncertain if that works for you, as it might be a single frame “behind” ;o)
Set the Tracer>Limit>From End> to 2 if problems occur. Based on the difference in edit (multiple refreshing) and render (single run), do some tests. ;o)

Alternative idea: [experimental!]

Press play to make it work. (Perhaps the alternating direction of the spline needs to be addressed, e.g. with the same “feed that the switch receives”)

How it works, have a look here:

I would also suggest to explore the option to Connect+Delete all Splines so they they can be addressed by 0;2;4;… or 1;3;5;… with XP-Points, just a thought.

My best wishes
