Randomly Change Cloner Count Animation

I have a sphere in a cloner. I want the count to randomly change the number of clones over the course of my animation (currently 150 frames). Further more, I want to limit the minimum and maximum number of clones that appear to between 1 and 5. In After Effects, I create a circle shape, add a Repeater, pickwhip the count to a slider, and add an expression to that slider. I’m sure there is a way in C4D, but animation is not my strong suit in this program as it is in AE. I’ve attached a screenshot of what things look like right now.

Thanks!

Hi jasonsone,

Here is the simplest way I can think of.

The idea is to have the Random Effector> Parameter> Modify Clone working on the Cloner.2>Object> Mode: Blend.

In this way the Cloner Object.2 blends between the two Cloner and Cloner.1 (which are set to one clone and five clones.) All values in each of the two become blended.

The Random Effector is normally set to Min/Max -100 to 100, which would not result in something you have target. To set it 0- 100wouldn’t either, as we have an expectation about random. I think -24 to 148 is a good starting point.

How fast this works is based on the Random Effector> Effector> Random mode (and the parameter Speed below)

All the best

Sorry about the extra click, but I have problems to upload here currently.

This works perfectly! Thank you!

One more question…is there a way to control the speed? It’s a little fast right now. But the overall objective for what I was wanting is spot on!

Oops…nevermind. I found it under the Effector tab.

Thanks again!

Thanks for updating your own question! Thanks for the feedback, jasonsone!

The scale might work here like a “smoother”..

Let me know if there is any other question or option you like to explore.

My best wishes for the project.
