Hanging a candy cane dynamically

I am looking to get a candy cane to hang dynamically on a “string” made with spline dynamics. I want the cane to naturally swing around as the object holding the string is jarred a bit. My problem is that the cane just falls through the string. Perhaps my approach is incorrect or I have a setting incorrect.

I uploaded the relevant portion of my file to dropbox. Here is the link:

I need this project to be finished by Monday, so I hope there is someone not on holidays yet.

Hi Vrauckis,

I have attached a scene-file how I would do it.  The problem in your set up is, that the “string” needs to move the “cane” but is also moved by the cane. Which is quite a dependency. This goes back and fore. There is more, that the Spline was very small spaced for the can, the “Shape” was on Automatic, etc. Let’s talk about what I think works in a stable and easy way. I think also that the way you can manage the set up is crucial.

What I suggest is more to ignore for a moment the “string” and move the “cane” directly by the twig. This can be done with a Spring and (Connector-) Hinge combination, or as I have set it up, with two Hinges (see file _02, for clarity)
In file _01 I have used only one Hinge for simplicity.

Either way, since the “string” is connected to the “twig” and the “cane”, and follows their dynamically changes, it can be produced with a Tracer and some Null objects. If you use a Spring/Hinge combination, the “string” becomes automatically a rubber band.

To have the Sweep stable, I have set up a “Rail” solution. This prevents that the Sweep flips or mis-behaves.
Keep in mind to cache all, to have less trouble with Hierarchies, etc.

I hope that works for you.

My best wishes for your project.

P.S.: perhaps you like to check version _03 done with springs? (Movement limited to the Helix Spring “plane”)

The Dyn-Solution is changed, if you like to change, clear the cache
