External compositing problems

Hi I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.  I’m trying to attach 2d Text in after effects but things are not tracking properly. I’ve attached the External compositing tags to nulls in C4D and to the cloner but don’t seem to get keyframes on my layers in AE and they are all coming in at 0,0,0 I basically have 2 pipes that I’ve made out of cylinders I’ve cloned and attached to a spline wrap to make a tube.  I want to get the position of this tube so I can add labels.  I’m also trying to create the look of steam coming from the pipes using trapcode particular.  I can create the steam but having the same problem with the tracking.  I’ve tried with chinaware and the old way of just importing an AEC file and same problem.  What’s the best route null with compositing tag?  Do I need to bake down the object? I’mv kind of grasping at straws at this point.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I’ve tried attaching a zip with my c4d file but doesn’t seem to want to post so I just posted without. (ha ha when you can’t even get the post to work..yikes)

thanks
Eli

I’m running v16 Broadcast edition and AE CC14

Hi Eli,

Sorry about the problem with the Zip attachment, Is it too large, or is the text telling you “wrong MIME” type”. Any other options, e.g., Clouds, DropBox, etc.?

Try to use a Light instead of the Null, just as test, or an Objects>Empty Polygon. Perhaps set the External Compositing Tag to Solid.

… or check out this thread and its files, just to get more data. http://www.cineversity.com/forums/viewthread/1551/

Other than that, with out a file, please contact the support. http://www.maxon.net/support.html

All the best

Thanks Dr Sassi!  I tried the empty polygon and that seems to be doing the trick.  I also think the active camera in chinaware might of been my problem.  I noticed later that I actually had 2 cameras in my C4D file and when I went through and set the Active Camera to the right camera it seems to be working properly.

Hi Eli,

Sounds great and working for you. Nice. I have observed it in MoGraph for example many times that “empty polygon objects” work and Nulls wont (e.g., if made editable)

If there is anything with Cineware, please let the support know. Feedback is certainly one option to improve things. :o)

All the best
