Helix + sweep issues…

Hello Cineversity,

This is probably a simple issue but it’s one that I’ve been working on for far too long. I am requesting some feedback on how to better use the helix with rectangle and a sweep. From what I have gathered, the issue comes from the orientation of the rectangle compared to the orientation of the helix.

I have a (horrible) C4D file that shows how unruly this can get in just a few seconds as well as an illustration of what I am trying to recreate - I’ve uploaded those files to dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/n4f87zmgj83s7qs/helix-sweep.zip

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hi AnonProd,

Here is your file back.

I have adjusted it and set a copy of the Helix as rail. The rail should be a little bit larger and perhaps moved along the axis of the helix.

Explore the file, try to break it and you might get very fast a “hung of it”.

The Rail is similar to a target, and it helps to “direct” the orientation. Explore the check-boxes of the Sweep>Attribute Manager>Object [tab].

My best wishes

Sassi

Thank you Dr. Sassi!

I did some research on using the second rail but the information available is lacking. I’ll need to do more research!

Thank you again for your feedback!

You’re welcome, AnonProd.

Perhaps you place two splines in space, apart from each and use these in a Sweep with a profile. Pulling on the rail will give you all you need, if you analyze the results each time. Hence, why there is not so much about.

If you have a specific set up, other than the Helix, I’m happy to look into it. Perhaps that might help to illuminate the process in a better way. Just ask.

All the best

Sassi
