Hi Cineversity,

I have gone through a couple of cappucino tutorials, can’t figure this out.

I can’t seem to get cappucino to work to record some low poly simple cloth animation.

When I am setup, (ready to press “start realtime”, “start current time” & “rewind time are checked”, “What” section - “PLA” checked only.

Problem I run into is when I click “start realtime” and click once in the editor window, and don’t move me mouse, nothing happens. It will work for single keyframe, but not for entire project.

Would you mind please telling me what I am doing wrong?

I always appreciate your help!

Thank you!

Hi TCG,

Hold down the mouse while the process goes along the whole timeline (The time-slider needs to be on, e.g., frame zero or earlier than the even . Please let me know if that works for you. If not, you might a) attach a small scene here, so I can try, or b) you check this with the support.

Your title is “cloth and cappucino”, which is not very precise. Please share some more details, thanks.

Axis based activities are recorded.

All the best

Dr Sassi,

I tried to follow your instructions, still having problems with cappucino.

I am attaching a file that is for test only.

I can get cappuccino to work when I want to use a “motion sketch” type of capture.

What I am having trouble with is capturing/getting a cloth’s points as keyframes that I can then use with deformers, not having to worry about cloth tag anymore.

I am attaching file now, appreciate your help!

Thanks for the additional information, TCG.

What ever creates an axis will work, as a rule of thumb. A calculation of just point movements based on, e.g., deformer is not a given (as I mentioned this function from Motion-Clips).

Select the points, move the axis. Or. Select the points, create a selection and use the Restriction Tag on the deformer with the Selection.

If you work with Cloth, cache the object in question and use the “Cloth Cache Tool” for point manipulations.

As no scene file showed up (trouble uploading? 4MB max and zip), I can’t tell more at the moment.

I will wait for the file. Please try again, or perhaps use DropBox, etc.

All the best

P.S.: Just to illustrate the work with the “Cloth Cache Tool”, each path is based on a single point over time. Shift click to select more. Then you can fine tune the object. It is a powerful tool.

thank you for your fast reply. i should have emailed this to you first thing.

this vimeo is where i found using this method can be a time saver for a current project.

at about 4 minutes, 57 seconds this motion artist uses this technique for cloth & capp. I still can’t get it, I might have to call for support.

i found i can use this for tests on primitives, but can’t get it with cloth…if you have any thoughts, I’d love to hear them.

Thanks for the link.

...and it is not working, right?  Something has changed, so I do not blame the video-link!

So please try at least one time as I mentioned it above. (Have your cloth cached for that)

Timelslider is before the wanted recording area. Select the cloth so you get an AXIS. Start realtime (Cappucino) and click on the AXIS. Hold until the timeslider is from start to finish. Works? Great :o) If not, please check with the Support.

After you the PLA information, I would disable the Cloth tags.

All the best

Thank you Dr. Sassi!

I apologize for wasting your time, should have sent you link in 1st email, but I didn’t want you to think I was asking you to do my “homework”.

I will read and follow your last email and let you know if it’s a success or failure.

Thanks so much, as usual!

You are not wasting my time, TCG. Anything that is not clear will stop further development, so lets clear that point. I have to admit something was different than to older versions (or at least in my memory EDIT: I did—r11.5 and r12 worked differently/edit). I have to check older versions to stay sane, hehe.

Let me know how it goes.

Enjoy

Did it! Amazing, it was just a matter of me making sure I selected the AXIS like you mentioned, works like magic.

Thank you!!!!
