hi Cineversity,

About 5 years ago I went through a tutorial showing me how to use “bones” and found it very helpful. The little I know is that IK Spline has replaced “Bones” since then? I have come across a project where I need to bend an object, a flat type of cylinder. Instead of using the bend deformer, I think IK Spline (or Pose Morph) will give me the control I need? I need to dive right in and start. Can someone please direct me to which tutorials and which instructor in Cineversity will help me learn this? I have scrolled through various video’s throughout Cineversity, and am not sure where to begin…I appreciate your help, been working on C4d for 6 years, but clueless in this area.

Thank you!

Steve

Hi Steve,
You can see spline IK in action in Bret’s rigging tutorial (http://www.cineversity.com/vidplaytut/biped_rigging_2a)
The spline IK tag is added to a joint chain.
a source spline is then linked to the spline IK tag.
You then create controllers via the spline IK tag
The spline IK tag and the controllers will control the position / rotation of the selected point on the spline.
any changes to the spline are passed to the joint chain.

For the most part this work well…but if you are worried about NOT having any squash or stretch then you may need to put more consideration into a rig that uses the spline IK.

Hi Steve,

Try the Spline Wrap, if you need to Bend an object based on a spline.

Check the parameter carefully, to get the most out of it, e.g., Mode>Keep Length.

All the best
