Help needed to turn this 2D image into 3D.

Hi guys,

I need some guidance on turning this old miniature painting into a 3D scene using C4D. How would you approach modelling this from the start? and each individual sections (arcs) of the building? and how would you go about making the detailed design as a texture?

Much appreciated.

Hi Monad,

There is no image.

I sent a while ago an upload link. Did you receive it?

All the best

Hi Monad,

Thanks for the image and trying again here in the forum. (800w x600h is the max., that was perhaps the problem)

The only way I can think of is to take the image apart to harvest textures.
These needs are then prepared in Photoshop. Mostly “cloner” work.

Some of those need to be brought into a rectangular shape, and then you must design a floor plan. From there, you can create the rest. There are many assumptions needed.

Is that easy? It depends, as the painting has no perspective and is painted like layers of flat images with some parts are “shear” to connect the background, middle ground, and foreground.

As you can see, the size of anything isn’t changing with depth, so there is the only thing that will be easier.

My best wishes

Thanks for your input. Could you link me to any relevant tutorials on Cineversity or Youtube so I can figure out the way you are referring to for UV mapping?

Best,

Monad

Hi Monad,

you’re very welcome.

I have not suggested any UV work here; I believe you can do pretty much all with preparing textures and placing them on Plane Objects, while alpha masks will give them the needed details around the edges.

I suggest doing this little drill to get a feel for it:

It takes five minutes, and it has worked wonders during my hands-on classes. Enjoy!
