Masking Mograph cloning?

Hi.

Is there a way to ‘mask’ Mograph clones?

In the attached jpg, I’d like to not have clones within the red square.

The clones use the 2 landscape objects to populate. (typical creation of a forest)

Here is a link to a full rez image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9bvf5ueeo9r2gix/mask sample.jpg?dl=0

Thanks in advance.

Hi tomvr,

Please have a look at the file below.
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/PoFnXM057Q2Qaxwxvg6rzuS9lMzw98ZKJyBhibgPAkw

To all Cloners that need to be involved, I have added a Plain Effector. This Effector has only one setting, the Parameters> Visibility checkbox is on.

The Falloff of the Effector contains a Cube Field, which is set to Remapping> Invert.

Now you can move and adjust the size of this Cube Field, and inside of it will be no clone.

Let me know if that works for you.

All the best

Hi Dr. Sassi.

That worked! And very flexible too, so that I can adjust that visibility.

Have a good weekend.

You’re very welcome, tomvr, thanks for the reply.

Yes, this is very flexible, and you can use many Fields in the Falloff List.

Have a great weekend, as well.

Hi Dr. Sassi.

Me again.

I’m trying to do something simple (I think), but cannot seem to figure it out.

I simply what to ‘grow’ the trees.

I can’t seem to get them to grow from their bases. Instead, I’m getting this kind of growth: from some point that’s not their individual bases.

What am I doing wrong? (c4d project at link below)

Here’s a screen cap: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cfk7prs1fb0wkdj/tree growth.mp4?dl=0

Thanks. Again.

Hi tomvr,

Thanks for the file and especially for using DropBox. Very much appreciated.
If something new leads to a question, please open a new thread, as it becomes otherwise hard to find anything in the forum. Thanks for considering.
I saw that the file didn’t use fields, what version are you using?

Yes, I can clearly see the problem. What I did in the file below:
I set the tree back to a zero position, a scale of 1, as well as used the Axis Modification tool [L] to get the Y-axis pointing up again.
The Cloner>Transform of the Tree to the max target size (scale)
After that, everything worked out nicely.

I tend to set even that scale into the mesh, so I have no need to adjust anything in the Cloner. The Scale stays at 1,1,1. Yes, it can be ignored if the Reset Coordinates in the Cloner is checked on, but I assume it was checked off based on the settings the tree had.
Clean In –– Clean Out.
If you scale the model, then perhaps in the Cloner as well, then in the plain Effector again: How would you know after a half year what leads to what? (Or if it is team-work, it would lead to a lot of questions.) If the Trees are prepared, then the Plain Effector would be the only instance to scale. Easy to manage; easy to spot.

Hi Dr. Sassi.

Thanks for the quick fix!

I am using R22, but found that Plain Effector suggestion from R19 online. I had been using the fields of R22, but couldn’t get them to work.

And I will remember to start any new conversation as a new thread. My apologies.

Here’s a sample of what we’re working on.

Have a good weekend.

Hi tomvr,

Thanks for the additional information. No worries about the double theme thread, I just do my house-keeping here. Thanks for your reply to that.

I hope you have a lot of success with this project, certainly deserved.

Please find below a set up with Fields. The key to this is to invert the field. (Remapping> Invert)
