Controlling cloners or particles along a spline

I’m trying to get clones moving along multiple splines with offset animations so they look more like particles. The overall look is particles being breathed in through the nose down the air way then getting stuck in the lung so I need to control the end point and their path along the airway.

Was trying to use an effector to offset but I can only see a way for it to effect the keyframed animation within the clone. Any help someone could provide would be most appreciated, have been looking through tutorials for hours trying to find a good solution.

thanks,
Josh

Hi Josh,

Thanks for the images. If I had the splines of your set up, I would have used those. I think that working with scene files allows for a better exchange.
Here are three examples, as I’m not clear how you would like to have it.

I hope that helps to clear the direction a little bit.

All the best

That’s great thanks Dr Sassi, CV2_S22_drs_20_MGlp_11.c4d is the closest to what I’m trying to achieve.

One thing is there any way to make the time that they stop slightly different when using offset to animate? I’ve kept working on it so here’s my project so you can see clearer what I’m doing, currently the times the particle groups stop are different manually and they still look a bit mechanical to me.

Thanks for the Dropbox file, Josh, very much appreciated.

The Offset, Start, and End parameters have no idea about anything one can do with Effectors.

To create a comfortable option to art-direct all 16 cloners with a flexible amount of control, I have set up three Spline User-Data Fields.

These Spline fields can be run with two or more points, whereby 16 allows having control per point over one Cloner.

Each field controls a single parameter: Offset, Start, or End.

It’s past midnight here, so if there is a question, I’m happy to look into it, Monday Morning (pacific time zone)

Enjoy, stay safe, stay healthy.

P.S.: Looking with fresh eyes this morning on it, here is a version that keeps the flow of the particles while the deeper parts of the lung are reached later.
Your scene was nicely organized, longer splines are on one end of the hierarchy and shorter on the other, for each side. So the Spline interface shows that.

P.S.S.: Since the original request was based on working with Effectors, I went to explore some options. Typically one can’t really move objects along a spline with the idea to use fields as an adjustment object.

With the Cloner set to Blend, the Plain Effector can work with the Modify Clones options.

This would require an object that has an option in itself to offset or use start and end as a parameter, as a clone. So I explored the MoSpline. Here is my finding.
Project file:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/YdDGR6tD4ieCQiBmMBPLdEdM2h5pXyn6jr3VsLpcOJn

The three Linear filed are now “ruling” the progress of the Spheres. Well, they rule how much of the spline is reproduced, and blend among the three MoSpline objects. Each is set up differently. It could be done with two or four+.

I have color-coded them, as it is pretty much three times the same. I hope that works for you. It is also only one side of the lung. Since the other side of the body is (lung-wise) differently shaped, I guess that symmetry was only for demo purposes anyway.

My best wishes for your project.

Hi Josh,

I’m used to these time-zone based delays, even I try to be online as much as possible. Typically no answer means people are happily trying new things out, right? wink

Let me know if there is anything else, I’m happy to look into it.

Have a great day, stay safe, stay healthy.
