Possible to make a necklace with dynamics?

Hello,

I’ve been tasked with creating a necklace, of sorts. My intention was to use the plugin Ho Rope to generate a dynamic thread in which to go through some pieces of geometry.

My initial tests do not bode well for the overall project as when I engage dynamics, the intended threaded geometry does collide with the thread/rope, but quickly begins jittering before ultimately flying off of the thread entirely.

I’m not entirely certain if Cinema’s dynamics system is a worthy contender for this sort of project or not, though I’d love to hear anyone’s insights into this sort of thing if you have experience with this type of simulation, utilization of dynamics.

Thanks in advance for your time!

Hi Neil,

Please have a look here:
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaylist/cv-dynamic_connector/cv-dynamic_connector_promo

and then here:

If you use R21, this plug-in must be installed manually at the moment. I checked it with the current build, and all is working.

Cheers

P.S.: here is an Alembic export/re-import of it. I have reduced the parts in the file for better usability.
I would suggest this ex/import routine with Alembic if you need data from the elements.

Hi Dr. Sassi,

Thanks for the reference to that CV plugin! Looks to be very versatile (which I suppose is the general trend with practically all CV plugins).

For the particular type of ‘necklace’ I’m making, CV Dynamic Connector isn’t the ideal candidate to get the motion I’m after. However, I was able to get the intended result by adjusting a few settings within the dynamics tag (changing the mesh type from Automatic to Moving Mesh did the trick, mostly), and ramping up the number of iterations and substeps in the Expert tab of the project settings also worked wonders on the simulation itself.

Though, the overview video of CV Dynamic Connector has really put a number of fun ideas into my head that I’ll definitely be exploring soon!

As always, thanks for your time and efforts!

Sounds all good, Neil, thanks for the feedback and the additional information.

My best wishes for the project.
