unexpected axes orientation

Hi. I am learning c4d and run in something I don’t understand.

If I import an object, or drag something in from my content browser, the axes sometimes seem to be oriented in another way.
I could rotate the object, but feel I am missing something. How can I control the orientation in wich things are imported?

Best regards, Dik

Hi Dik,

Some objects have a different axis system like Z is up instead of Y. Which sometimes means a model can come in like 90º rotated. Is that what you experience?

Any other amount of degrees, not dividable by 90º indicates that the model was not oriented in its own space.

Please have a look here:

There are so many formats and options that I believe that what I wrote above is the only general information I can give.

There is a Reset-PSR command available, is that not able to fix the problem?

Can you share a file, or name the object from the Content Browser? If you have problems uploading here, I’m happy to provide an upload link (IF you share a link, please only Google, Apple, Amazon or [preferred] Dropbox).

All the best

Thanks for your reply.

I indeed sometimes experience a 90 degree rotation.
Because I only work in C4d I had not expected these rotations.
Sometimes I also see unexpected movements when importing from the content browser (objects that where on axe origin are not when imported)

Now that I am aware of it, it does not surprise me much, and then the PSR command is super helpful, Thanks for the tip!!
But the PSR command does not reset an object when it was rotated.  I wil try to find out when exactly this happens.

Another issue I have might be related:

I have a scene (made in c4dR17) that has a plane on Y=0 and that plane has a water material. You can only look a little way in this water. Everything seemed fine.
But when I now import this scene in R20, The water material seem to be upside down. (underwater the camera has a clear view, above water it is now as if I am under water)
I can solve the problem, but I again don’t understand what I am missing here.

Thanks Dik.

Hi Dik,

Please share at least a name of the Content-Browser object so I can give you more information.

Typically I ask for a scene file, which is always the best way to discuss a case here.
I really don’t know how the scene was set up (Water). I need to see it.

You can, of course, explore the Axis Modification Tool, or even the Axis Center.
