alternative to an FFD deformer with falloff?

Hello,

I was hoping to use the FFD deformer with spherical falloff, but then I realised this deformer doesn’t have a falloff feature.
My plan was to position it over an area of the mesh and rotate/move/scale it, deforming the mesh with precision at the target area with a soft falloff.
I feel like there might be another simple method to achieve this but it eludes me. Any tips appreciated smile

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick,

How about building your own FFD with falloff. The Mesh deformer could do the trick. This is just along your question.

Another way would be with the Correction deformer. Update the deformer and then use the new points to create your shape. With teh Falloff enabled, you get the wanted change.

As the third option I would utilize the PoseMorph, to store the deformation. Which can be done with a FFD as well. Disable the FFD after ta pose is stored and the Pose Morph is set to Animate.
The PoseMorph deformer can now use the stored information and work with it along any falloff.

Let me know if there is anything else, I’m happy to look into it.

Cheers

Hi Dr. Sassi,

The mesh deformer worked perfectly, I made a grid of cubes with even point spacing, then set the advanced setting External to “Surface (Area)”, awesome! Thanks for all the solutions smile
