Data images. I might sound like a broken record here, but my target is to showcase why a gamma and eight bit/channel combination results just in a very low quality.
The 256 integer position in a file might represent the rotation of a full circle. there is no fraction. In the moment a gamma is applied, more values in certain areas share the same position, which can’t be “healed” at any time. Rotation to 256 steps is used for example in Normal Maps. With RGB we can define any direction. To make that more visible, I picked the R.P. and created an “Gamma In and Out Filter/8bit”
Here is the visual result, just open it and press play, the red indicator is the output. If you can see the red indicator, the results would be wrong. How far it is behind, indicates how much it differs. I hope that cures the eight bit channel use.
