Animation Techniques for Teams (release date (Mar 4th) – is a course in “non-linear-animation” designed for artists at large-scale production facilities or those collaborating from remote locations sharing video assets. Because JET was created solely by Sassi, this ‘bonus’ series provides critical knowledge and concepts for filmmakers working in teams that are not discussed in the other tutorials.

Film and Motion Graphics for TV is certainly a field that takes advantage from team-work. To do a project all by yourself is on the other hand the best thing one can do to understand each part in it. Which leads then to understand the requirements of each “job” and delivers so a great base in becoming a team leader or director of a whole project. Either way, digital production allows for both, and this series contains a lot of data to take even as a solo artist advantage from it: Non Linear Animation is nothing really new, but it uses this “Character Tool” in a perhaps unique way. CINEMA 4D is a great tool, but in its endless combinations one will find its true power. This series goes one time along the complete set up for the little clip that you find linked below.

I have called this CGX ChoreoGraphiX. This needs some preparation, there comes the team idea in. It might help to create animations with an ease—never experience before! As an artists the focus can go now to the dynamic and the sound, rather than browsing many windows to establish it. I’m happy to provide here an series that I haven’t seen anywhere else, so I hope you get some benefits from it. How all of that works—just watch it.

The structure of the course is given in four parts:
1. Introduction
2. Preparation
3. Storage
4. NLA session
I highly recommend to check out the introduction part. (... of course I do :o)

Have fun!

In the image you can see how similar the animation is “edit” to a film edit. The two tracks here can be used independently to have a “directors cut” and a client session at the same time.

Dr. Sassi,

you mention opening files several times in this tutorial but i have not been able to find the link for these files you are mentioning. I have been happily creating them from scratch but i would like to also see your files anyway.

Hey Vrauckis,

Yes I mentioned them and uploaded these files to the server. I have no access anymore to the management of these tutorials after they are published.

What I will do is to send you a PM here on Cineversity, with the link to the files.

I hope the admin team can fix that.

All the best

Sassi

Hi Sassi,
these animation tutorials look great…and like Vauklis I was following along happily building and hoping you’d show how to get Cloner/Effector info into motion clips….and you did, but wow, either it was too late at night for me, or there were more steps than I could count, so I would love to see that demo setup if possible, please.

thanks for all you inspiring work.  hope you’re well.

Best,
Betsy

Hey Betsy,

Thanks to our never tired Patrick Goski, this mistake (mine!) was fixed. It is now very simple to get the files:

Thanks you very much for your feedback. Very much appreciated. Yes, NLA for teams is a little bit work to get the first time through the whole idea, but I think it is such an powerful option. It was so much fun to animate along the music, as I never had this realtime-pleasure before. I had the impression to finally paint along the music, instead of coding with keyframes (to express it black and white)

Yes, I’m fine :o) Thanks for asking. I’m happy that we do more production based training since a while. Which let me share my time between the computer monitor and my RED camera screen very easily. I love practical and virtual cameras, especially of course in the mix with C4D.

I hope you and the other great people from the “Expression College for Digital Arts” are doing fine as well!

If you have any questions, please let me know. I know that you have used e.g., Cappucino for this kind of keyframe preparation since long, so I hope the other parts will work nicely for you as well.

Have a great day

Sassi
