AXISBANDS R14

Hi there,
time for a maybe dumb question:
I got big problems with the R14 axisbands or better say not exisiting axisbands…
I realize the little 90 degree angled lines to assure moving/scaling on a specified axis…
but how to scale all axis proportionaly…theres no cube at the origin of the axis anymore
The same problem I got with adjusting texture projections

I know there has been a big disussion about this when R13 came out…
for me the “new axisbands” are too far from the origin
and I dont understand why its useful to kill the cube at the origin wich assured affecting all axis proportionally.

Please enlight a blind artist (hopefuly overlooking sth. obvious)
I hope theres a possibility to get the old axisbands back or sth. similar.

Thanks in advance!
Mark

Hi Mark,

The reason you do not see the cube in the middle is because a click and drag anywhere in space performs the same action. (The scale tool has actually functioned this way for a long time, with no need to actually use that center cube.)

For texture projections it is important to note that there were 2 methods to adjust textures. In R13+ this was changed to just the Texture Axis mode in conjunction with Axis mode toggled on.

as for the distance of the new axis bands, your best bet there is to send in the suggestion to MAXON :D
One thing you can try is using the Shift key. By holding shift and clicking and dragging on the axis you can move on the plane perpendicular to that axis.

Hi Mark,

The cube was, so the information that I have, always exactly (of course) in the center of interest. In that way—the request was to get it out there.
I’m 100% for any change, as long as there is a checkbox to keep the legacy (if possible) available. You need to make an input in the “MAXON Suggestion Page” to voice you wish. MAXON is listening, hence the change in the first place.

However, the Cube exists, not really but functional, except for the exact center of the axis system. You find the adjustment of the size in the Editor View>Options>Configure All, Then Attribute Manger, see Image.

All the best

Awesome reply’s guys! I’m impressed! Thanks a lot, sometimes you get that used with your workflow that you overlook the obvious things…
did’nt realize that “axismode” behaves that well with projection adjustment.
Cheese!

Hey Mark,

You’re welcome. I was typing and checking things (I always do, even if I’m 100%, but things might change…) while Patrick answered as well. So you got a double answer ;o)

The improvements with the axis system hopefully counterbalance the initial frustration when things changes.  Especially the proportional scaling along the axis is a time saver.

I certainly feel the muscle memory—if something has changed.

Thanks for being so positive.

All the best

So true. I always catch myself in the middle of doing something the old way, always. I find even the Shift modifier I mentioned is clunky to use, but that is because I don’t practice using it enough.

Thanks Patrick,
As I feel sometimes that I’m the only one who is “stuck in customs”. I get so used to stuff that I feel resistance in me, to attach myself to an update.  Well, the past teaches me wrong: The best remedy is of course to go back to e.g., R8 or earlier for a few moments. :o)

Have a great Day
