hello guys, I’m trying to achieve this look of a Ghibli style tree, this dude makes it really nice in blender.
I tried to do this with cell shader and smooth knots but it doesn’t look the same, any ideas? 🙏
a few examples for what I want to achieve:

Hi eran,

I think any procedural would have driven Hayao Miyazaki nuts. For me, he is the heart of the studio. When I think about his method to work, I’m not certain to even offer this procedure. wink

Here are ten years of his work in four hours. Official Japanese TV.

That said, I do a procedural, but in the most painterly way; Cinema 4D allows this detailed look while not requiring much work.

Please have a look here

The key is a single painting or a roughly painted sphere to get the feeling of Ghibli; anything else looks more like something else. The Sketch and Toons Art shader then translate this:

My best wishes for your project
