Hello,
I’m trying to export animated sweep nurbs as Alembic and then import it into Unreal Engine, the problem is that only one animated sweep can be imported or only the end of the entire animation of all sweeps, does anyone have any experience with this?

C4D file is attached smile

Thanks in advance!

Hi modado,

Thanks for the file.

Please open a new Cinema 4D project and merge the abc with all five Sweep objects back into Cinema 4D.
Is this working?

In the next test, go to your original scene and try this.
Place all five under a Connect object and export as Alembic.

Re-import (merge) into a new scene to see if that worked.

In the project-settings check on at least the top two first boxes in the Cineware tab, save the screen, and load the Dat Smith Plug into Unreal.

So, which of the suggestions works for you in Unreal?

If nothing works, please check with the support.

Hi Dr.Sassi, I’ve tried everything:
Please open a new Cinema 4D project and merge the abc with all five Sweep objects back into Cinema 4D.
Is this working?
- This only works in C4D

In the next test, go to your original scene and try this.
Place all five under a Connect object and export as Alembic.
Re-import (merge) into a new scene to see if that worked.
- This also only works in C4D

In the project-settings check on at least the top two first boxes in the Cineware tab, save the screen, and load the Dat Smith Plug into Unreal.
- After opening the C4D file in Unreal Engine, the geometry is there but without animation

So, which of the suggestions works for you in Unreal?
- Unfortunately, nothing works properly in Unreal Engine
Thanks for the quick reply!

Thanks for testing, modado.

Please try this:

I have checked and replaced every item (only two of them are animated in my file). Also, the caps should not be left at N-Gons. I got a lot of error logs with the file you shared; with the rebuild, I don’t.

I can import it to Unreal as Alembic. I have no idea where the problem came in. I used the same Cinema 4D version as you did, but the Sweep doesn’t work until I replace it with new ones. Hence my suggestion is to check with the support. Which I think should be your next step. (I’m not an Unreal Pro-user and learn it sporadically when I have time, but it is undoubtedly one of my leading apps on the to-do list.)

I get the Sweep Nurbs animation in UE5 via the Bake as Alembic, but I have the problem that the animation is not identical.
When the animation slider is on frame 31, then export I only get two sweeps in UE5, when the animation slider is on frame 72 I get all the sweeps but not all have animation.

Something is wrong there…. I use a workaround with Spline Wrap and Cylinder for my Pipes smile

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the reply, modado,

Great that you can use a workaround.

If you could send the abc file to the Unreal support, that would be great. So it is clear what needs to happen when you need to use it next time.
