Resizing Polygon Objects/Hierarchies?

Is there no amazing tool for resizing editable objects? I’ve been using the method described here:
https://vimeo.com/231119478
It’s effective but gets pretty tedious when you have a lot of objects. I thought the Measure and Construction tool might do this but it stops short, unless I’m mistaken.

I’ve got several objects making up an assembly imported from ZBrush via an .fbx file.  One of the objects has known dimensions (its also rectilinear and oriented along the axes), so I can use the steps described in the link for each of the objects individually. I’m getting a new version of this model every day so this is really just a pain.

Is there not a better way? It would be great if you could select some points, edges or polys, see the measurement, change it to what you want, have the tool apply this to several objects at once (and have it reset the scale to 1 to avoid problems down the road). Can the Measure and Construction do this and I just haven’t figured it out yet?

Hi peter.aquinde,

How about the Asset Browser> Geometry Modifier> Geometry Resize?

If you like to have only one object on end, use the Connect and Delete for initially single objects.

This is the simplest way, to my knowledge, when you like to have it scaled with a single target size while keeping the scale at one.

The Object v Model mode should be known and used accordingly. To leave it in the tutorial with this kind of confusion is not nice.

Hi Dr. Sassi,

I tried Geometry Resize a few days ago. It’s fine for the one object of known dimensions but that object is one of the smallest of the objects. Without knowing what the size of the other objects should be, I don’t see how I could use that the bring them to the correct relative sizes. If I merge all the objects with Connect and Delete, I don’t see a way to tell Geometry Resize to do the resizing based on a particular element.

Thanks for the reply, peter.aquinde! grin

If you need to resize one by measurement and all the others by the same scale, this would need the old approach, doing a short math. Get the overall scale and use the Scale Transform, Per Object Transform.

If you know what you need, perhaps load the FBX into a new scene, and scale it accordingly (Project Settings). Save it and merge it into your target scene.

If you need that function, perhaps make a suggestion here: (support Requests:

The Merge and Delete were meant to be used after using the Geometry Resize.

Thank you very much, peter.aquinde.

Fingers crossed that a Capsule with the features you need is soon available.

As a side note, if all the tips above are not working for you, you could place the objects under a Fracture Object and, via Plain Effector, scale them.
If I had (let’s say) 1,000 objects, I would use XPresso.

All the best
