Broadcast question…

This is probably a really dumb question but I am working on my first broadcast project and have information from the company that will broadcast it.  The first areas that I am unsure about is

Content Formatting:
• Slate Duration = 00 seconds 02 frames
• Black Duration = 00 seconds 01 frame
• 60 Second Duration = 59 seconds 29 frames
• 30 Second Duration = 29 seconds 29 frames
• 15 Second Duration = 14 seconds 29 frames
• 10 Second Duration = 09 seconds 29 frames
• Post-roll Duration = 00 seconds 01 frame

Does the slate, black duration and post-roll duration all account inside of the 30 second duration? Or are these tacked on the beginging and end of the 29second 29 Frames? Also in regards to the slate what does this consist of?

Last question

These are the final outputs that are allowed.  What would be the best format to use?

HD format (MPEG 2):
File Wrapper: MPG
Video Resolution: 1920 X 1080i 29.97
Compression Codec: MPEG2 [4:2:0 GOP of 15]
Bitrate: 35 Mb/s, 8 Bit
Audio: PCM 16, 20, or 24 bit, 48 KHz sample rate
Audio Reference Level: -20dBfs (-20 full scale digital = +4 dbm analog)

HD format (XDCAM HD):
File Wrapper: MOV or MXF
Video Resolution: 1440 X 1080i 29.97
Compression Codec: XDCAM HD
Bitrate: 35 Mb/s, 8 bit
Audio: Integer (Little Endian) 24 bit, 48KHz sample rate
Audio Reference Level: -20dBfs (-20 full scale digital = +4 dbm analog)

SD format (H.264):
File Wrapper: MOV
Video Resolution: 720 X 480 29.97
Compression Codec: H.264
Bitrate: 5 Mb/s
Audio: Integer (Little Endian) 24 bit, 48KHz sample rate
Audio Reference Level: -20dBfs (-20 full scale digital = +4 dbm analog

I know this is a little lengthy but I really could use some advice/ help with this smile

Thanks in advance!

Generally, the slate and black frames go before the 30sec spot. (ex. On a tape based project, I set it up like this: 20sec Color Bars and tone>10sec of black>10sec Slate>10 sec of black>Spot>30sec of black) Your slate typically will consist of your Project name, Date, duration, resolution, credits for people who worked on it, and your company logo.

Your output settings are all based on the project type. Is the project standard def or high def? Is it going to be delivered on digitally on a disc, or output directly to tape? Don’t be afraid to ask your client this information. Most likely, they will prefer that you do! Both the MPEG 2 and XDCAM are High Def formats, judging from the bit rate. You will just need to think about the project you’re creating in relation to the output medium for your client.

Hope this makes sense.
