How can I adjust reflectance on the colors coming in from Illustrator? I want to eliminate any corner highlights or ambient reflection which generally shifts the source colors in order to keep the “flat” aspect that you get in After Effects.

Sample project attached.

Hi fordmar,

Thanks for the file.

Please load this material:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/zCo9pCMX0hfQa6pWElkRDxD9fjB3WZqAREFkgHd1uCt

Material Manager, Create> Load Materials…

Add this material to the Vector Import. Render, or use the Interactive Render.

All the best

Sorry - but I don’t understand how Interactive Render will help on this as it only works in the preview window and not on export. Or am I misinformed?

Thanks for the reply, fordmar.

The only way I am aware of is via MoGraph’s Color Shader to get the colors from the Vector Import, which takes the color information and shows it when rendered. The Interactive Render was a suggestion to see what you are doing. Standard Render works just fine.

You don’t need that shader for any work inside of Cinema 4D, just for the rendering.

All the best

If I add the provided material to the Vector object it overrides the AI color and turns everything white. So I must be doing something wrong :(

Yes, fordmar,
the material is white, as it is not rendered. When you render it, the colors will show up.

Typically I would suggest making the Vector Import editable and applying a single color to them, preferably grouped by color.
But in this case, it would end up with 862 Extrude-path setups.

Let me know if, after rendering, things stay white, then please share your file.

Cheers

Ah! Yes, the white disappears on final render. And now I understand what you mean by using Interactive Render to see the preview. Ha! There’s a workaround for everything!

In the Render Settings under Options there’s a reflection checkbox. What does that affect? My particular figure is unaffected so far as reflection goes - at least not that I can tell.

The Reflection check box switches the reflections on or off in the rendering.

Open Illustrator and compare the colors after rendering in Cinema 4D with the view you have in Ai. They look pale with no material applied and reflection checked off, hence why I gave you that material. Inside of a material, you could even use a Filter-“shader” to adjust this, just in case.

Yes, there are many ways to avoid certain parts of the renderings; Multi-Pass comes to mind; perhaps try other options if the material is not the way you like to go.

Enjoy

You’re welcome, fordmar.

Just for comparison, and not directly representing Ai import: three cubes all have the same object color, each time a different way of providing the color to the render engine.
