Cylinder field does not affect displacer

I have added and removed the cylinder field as described here several times, but it does not affect the displacement as shown in the video. It is a child of the Displacer, and when it appears over the sand, it has no effect. So I cannot make the adjustments as described until it affects it of course. Cannot figure out what I am missing.

Not sure why my post was moved from the tutorial thread, but this is in regard to “Getting Started with Cinema 4D, Part 07: Using Fields with Deformers”

Hi david.pollock,

You have successfully removed all connections that would allow to answer your question:

Please do not create manually questions in the Tutorial forum. This should be only done via the Help button below the tutorial and only if it is directly related to the tutorial’s content. While you open a tutorials question, never change the headline. Any other questions please in the Q&A forum. Thanks.

Please keep in mind, even knowing all of the thousands of tutorials does not allow me to know what you are refering to.

So, I have no idea what you are referring to. Please share a scene file.

All the best

Crossing posts, thanks for pointing out what you were watching.

I did create the original post via the Help link under the tutorial in question but for some reason it was moved to this thread. It appears that doing this should create a thread based on the particular tutorial. No idea what I did wrong there as I clearly used the Help link right under that tutorial.

As shown in “Getting Started with Cinema 4D, Part 07: Using Fields with Deformers,” I have added and removed the cylinder field as described there several times, but it does not affect the displacement as shown in the video. It is a child of the Displacer, and when it appears over the sand, it has no effect. So I cannot make the adjustments as described until it affects it of course. Cannot figure out what I am missing. You can see on the attached screenshot that the cylinder does not remove the displacement as it supposedly should.

Here is a scene file, david.pollock, could you please check if that is working for you?

Let me know what happens. Thanks

Thanks, and yes, the cylinder does displace the lathe spline.

The main part is for me to get the fields working for you.

I just clicked on the Help button, and the thread below opens. Could you please check if that is working for you? Just to explore what happens and to fix that if needed.
https://www.cineversity.com/iforums/viewthread/3197

The idea is that for each Tutorial, there is only ONE thread. So questions that come up might have been already answered.
I’m used to organizing the forum and keeping things clear for everyone. Not a biggy to do for me. But when you say you pressed the Help button and got an empty headline and thread, then something is broken. Sorry for the trouble.

All the best

I would just like to understand why it is not working for me in the tutorial project. Of course, it doesn’t matter except that my understanding of it is now limited.

I don’t know what to say about the post. I did indeed click the help button and then “new topic” on the page that opened to post the original question. The workflow certainly makes sense, but that’s what I did.

Sounds good. Thanks for testing, david.pollock!

If you can zip and attach your file, I will check it and share my findings.

Cheers

Thanks for the file, david.pollock.

In your field list is a “Solid”. This solid was set to 100%.

The Cylinder Field on top was set to Max. Since the default set up limits values over 100%, the max was already given by the solid.

Switch the solid off, or lower the value, and all will work.

All the best
