Transfer color or vertex maps to a frozen Volume Mesh

Hi there.  I’m still sorting through learning C4d this past year. So far so good, I think. However, I ran into this issue yesterday. The object on the left is a volume mesh of the cloner setup on the right.  Is there a way to color or get some individual vertex weights per color (without painting them by hand) for each color applied to the volume mesh?  Is there a way to apply maps based on where the original cloners were?  For instance, wherever there is a blue color on the left, I get a vertex map for where only the blue colors are?  I’m probably over thinking it.. but any help would be great.  Thanks!

Hi brett,

There is no direct way, as the problem is, typically, that the points of the Volume Mesher are set per frame.

Please have a look here:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/CZh2mFUb4hb01AqNjWmqCijb0xWCzjAaMkKxHEpdj4r

The first example [01] renders the initial model before the Volume Mesher gets to work. This result can then Camera Project onto the Volume Result. Is that perfect? Not really. But it is fast.

The second option is a little bit more work. [11]
I have used the Cloner of the setup and produced with a copy an equal amount of Fields. These fields can hold a color, which they can get from the initial Cloner. They also can get their PSR (matrix) from it. This data can go into a Color Vertex Tag. As you can change the Color in the Random Effector, the Volume will change. I have introduced a single object (not a clone) to that to see how that works.

Let me know if that is better than painting manually.

All the best

(… and yes, I saw xpOpenVDBMesher)

Thank you!  I will be sure to check these out when I can.  11 sounds like what I’m aiming to do.  I will load them up later this evening.

Thanks for your reply, brett.

Here is something I just came up with. So please test this carefully before you go into production.

The idea is that the colors from the Cloner are stored in the color of the object. To keep this color for each lone individually but available for (the result of) the Volume Mesher, we need to create a Color Vertex Tag information. This will be used as Field in the Vertex Information of the new object retrieved from the Volume Mesher.

Of course, the quality of the Vertex Tag from the Cloner can be only as good as the density of their points were. Again please experiment with it.

The Clone (cube in the case) must be a Relative path (Xpresso), not an absolute!)

I Freeze the values in the Field.get, to make it independent from the Field.give.

P.S.: here is a little exploration about Vertex Colors used as Field inside of a different Vertex Color Tag.

Thanks for the feedback, brett!

Fields have so much power.

My best wishes for your project
