Loop cut doesn’t loop all the way around

Hi, I must be doing something wrong. I want to use the loop cut and make vertical cuts (along the Y-axis) all the way around the object. For the life of me I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong as the cut stops when it reaches the inside corner separating the lower/wider base and the upper column. Is there a key combination I need to use to “extend” the loop cut all the way around? I built the part using a cube, an inner extrude and then an extrude. Cheers/Anders

Hi Anders,

Uncheck: Stop at N-Gon? I need the project file. It is hard to see or justify what it is based on an image.
It works here just fine.

Cheers

Hi Dr Sassi,

I’m having problem uploading the project file - “The file you are attempting to upload has invalid content for its MIME type.”

It’s 2.5MB and has a .zip extension.

I remember sending you something to an amazon address earlier.

Cheers,

Anders

Thanks for the file, Anders.

If you use the Extrude option, have the Create Cap option off (Which is my best idea of how this could have happened).

In the Attribute Manager> Mode> Modeling> Mesh Checking.
In this case, the “Non-Manifold” showed four edges, indicating that something in that area was off.

Another indicator was in the Structure Manager> Polygons. An object like that should have an even number of polygons, not an odd number (0-14=15)

Those “internal” polygons are often a source for problems (e.g., SubDivision Surface).

Select one (or more) polygon(s), then use Select> Hide Selected. This allows you to see it. Select and delete that internal polygon, then use Unhide All.

ENJOY.

Thank you so much!

In a matter of minutes you solved my problem I’ve been struggling with for days.
The cuprit was the Create Cap setting. I wonder when I changed that. Maybe, when read about the extra polygons sometimes created during this problem solving journey.
I’m now promising myself to contact Cineversity/You earlier.

I’m so grateful!

Anders

Thanks for the feedback, Anders!

You’re very welcome.

Yes, please do so, don’t waste days! Always think about people who might run into the same, and happy to find your question here.

My best wishes.
