Im working on project and got this problem. I have absolutely no idea what is wrong there. When “water"object is not active, everything works fine, when active, something weird is happening. If camera P rotation value is 0 or minus, it works as expected, if value is greater than +2 ... no idea what is going on there. grin Any idea?

Hi Lopolo,

Two options, replace the water disc with a Cylinder: 1cm high, and 2490 cm radius.
The other option is to put an astronomically large number in the absorption distance.
However, I think it is safe to say that anything with refraction other than 1 or an absorption distance should be a volume and not a flat, AKA none volume object. So use option one.

I have used an old computer to download it, against better judgement here. Please do not use shortened URL; I don’t trust them, nor do they typically use those. It puts only an extra server in the pipeline, which increases the security risk. Nothing that I think is worth it at all. Wetransfer had last year even an outage with that extra server. I have to keep things save here, too many ransom reports are in the news. This is not fun. I share too many files to take any risks. Shortened URL - just please don’t.
I have also sent you an upload link, just in case, for any follow up questions to this thread.

Cheers

Hi Sassi.
Hmmm .. It means that for this kind of material we have to use closed object even if we need just one simple surface, right?
Thank you!

You’re very welcome, Lopolo, thanks for the reply.

You can use it in any way you like until you run into a problem. To avoid problems, you might keep the following in mind.

The refraction starts a process. In reality, we do not have any object with only 2 Dimensions, even a piece of paper has three. The shader will have a ray going through the surface, and it will continue to the infinity if that is not stopped with a surface in which the ray moves. It mustn’t be closed, as long as all possible rays hit a second item to finalize the calculation.
Again this is for transparency only; any other material has no problems with it. The only exception here is Fog, it has issues as well with flat objects.

Check the file below, switch either all Disc on or the Cube, render.
Do this on frame zero or 96.

All the best
