Jiggle on a Single Axis

How would one use the jiggle deformer to have its affect applied only to a single axis, either rotation or position (or scale for that matter)? It seems that this should be simple but it’s proving difficult for me. For example if I were to have a circle spline that rotates about its Y axis, I’d like to constrain the bounce to only this axis. As it is now it jiggles in all axis. Thanks so much!

Hi mshadis,

Not to my knowledge. Perhaps I get the wrong picture, you would like to rotate a circle spline that is on an XY plane, and rotates around the Y-axis (R.H). The points should “jiggle” now only rotational, meaning the distance to the Y-axis stays the same. Points moving on a circular path. Is that correct?

Could you please attach a scene file here (must be in zip format). I believe you need a Pose Morph to do that, which means manually.

All the best

In this file you can see the text that is spline wrapped to a circle spline. I’d love to be able to limit the effect of the jiggle deformer to just the rotation about the Y axis. As it is though it affects the scale and if that spline were a child of an animated object the jiggle would be deforming in unwanted axis and PSR’s. I can do a version of this effect using the Mograph Delay effector and using Sample in Xpresso but I like the control that Jiggle offers.

Thanks, mshadis, for the file.

Please have a look:

The idea is here to extend the Bounding Box of the Jiggle Deformer.
Set it to fixed, and animate with a Plain Effector the short little overshoot-effect.

Then, with this effect established, the Spline Warp is setup. Now the rotation goes to the point where the Delay Effector takes over. In the example, I have set up the animation as linear for the R.Y, so it doesn’t slow down before the jiggle effect based on the Delay Effector> Spring starts.

Let me know if you have a question, I’m happy to look into it.

Cheers

P.S.: here is a one minute clip, going through the steps until it runs along the spline and has the jiggle effect on the end.

Enjoy.

Wow thanks so much for so thoroughly giving your answer that that question! It’s very much appreciated. I’ll for sure give this implementation a shot.

You’re very welcome, mshadis, thanks for the kind reply.

Please let me know if that worked for you. If not, I’m happy to check if there is perhaps something else we could do.

My best wishes for your project.
