Clones within clones on a spline

HI looking for a way to take a row of sphere, that are built in a clone, then multiply that clones with the spheres, and have many rows of spheres all animating along a spline. I have the basic idea, but would like them following each other, with the same distance apart as they turn corners. Thats where I seem to run into issues, using a random effector only separates depending on the axis they are on. Tried Step and Delay, missing something. Attached where I’m stuck with it and a bad drawing of it.
Thanks much!
Jon Lewis

Hi Jon Lewis,

This was a little bit tricky, as I was running into some trouble. I have tested this one now for an hour to reproduce a problem, but perhaps it was more a problem outside the app (I have to check some disks here). I mention it only that you stress-test it before you invest too much time.

Project file:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/2JkNQkItBc7lqzyKIwyFvU1pthocoeWcUuIsn4nBOrG

If there is only a limited number of these “strings, I would use just several MoSplines and animate those. Then use them in Single Cloner for each.

Perhaps you have some other ideas, and the sketch should have been read differently.

Let me know if there is something else, I’m happy to look into it.

Cheers

Ahh thanks much for going through it. That is pretty much right.  I’m trying to get a grip on using the MoSplines and getting them to have the separated bubbles, want to understand it right before tossing it into projects. Will keep playing with it.  Thanks, Jon

You’re very welcome, Jon Lewis, thanks a lot for the reply.

Yes, please explore it as I got some behavior that I had to control with the Hide Selected, but so far, I’m not happy with it.

The key question would be, how many of those “chains” do you need?

Here is another take on this theme. Perhaps more straightforward and more approachable.

Hi thanks. Ok that’s a different approach. The other one was making more sense, but some of it wasn’t an as intuitive for me, and looking tricky to rig and adjust. The streams are actually suppose to be “stream of Malware” attacking computers icons and other icons like buildings. It’s a corporate Malware piece. One way is just to build each stream separately too, but thats no fun. So for the number, there are probably a lot, and then I can reset the spine for each scene was the plan.  Also hope you and your family are doing well. Thanks, Jon

Thanks so much for the wishes and the additional information, Jon Lewis. I love it when I get the story behind it. So much more fun.

I will explore more options then. wink

So, I assume the single-chain group is around not on the Spline directly.

Cheers

Thanks, right they are near it, but on a menacing path, like a swarm of angry hornets. But in a line. If we have them all random it look like trash flying around. Thxs Jon

The grid cloner from your first example was fine, I’m just having issues reproducing it. Why 2 MoSplines in the Cloner and I can’t get the Plainer weight to move it. But if you see a better way, thats all good. Thxs Jon

Jon,

The two MoSplines take a different part of the source Spline. These two are then Child objects of a Cloner that is set to Blend.

With a Plain Effector, the Modify Clone option can be used. To give you an example:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/MPp00WljNBM22CgIp0WFTAHYBm7OlAHhRhi4bGm2e2b

Move the Linear Field on the X-axis. The point of interest for the Field is the 0, 0, 0 point in this case. The result is the small spline running along the circle. Note the Settings in the MoSpline> Spline> Even.

All the best

Hi, not having much luck. Its hard to reproduce and control. The streams seem to change as they animate and have short corners on the turns. Attached where I’m at. Hoping they would be more fluid. Is it some thing that I’m missing? Or is it possible to do as a linear string of spheres in a clone? Did go back to a version from earlier I did that has them formed ok, (also attached) except that it would be good to have the streams staggered in time more, so some are behind, others are ahead. Was trying to use the plainer effector but it has no effect. Thanks again for your time.
Jon

Jon, then try this one below.

It works best with a closed spline. Which requires to set a particular part of the Spline/Cloner results to in-visible.

Since the Spline Effector has no entry field for selections, I have set up two Cloners to get a little bit variation into the speed.

As usual, I have sorted the flow of information (object manager) top to bottom. For many reasons.

If you like to have shorter or longer “trails”, adjust the Tracer> Object> [limit]> Amount:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/mF9xrSsZfM0kO8GGTEWrd84RKczBUy3FFHWQ9dh51Ya

Let e know if that works for you.

Cheers

Hey thanks! That works too. I think I’m pretty close. Thanks for your help on this one.
