How to extract.a depth map for Facebook ‘3d Photo’?

I need to extract a depth map that looks something like the attached. a grayscale, where the closer the object the more white it is. As close I can get is everything is absolute white (like an alpha channel). I’m using ProRender but I’ve tried other render modes too.

All my attempts have involved “Multi Pass” trying to get an extra layer to look like what I need.

I need this to create a ‘3d Photo’ for Facebook (you send in a color jpg and a separate associated grayscale depth map) (this is NOT a gltf.glb file, which has been deprecated by Facebook)

Thank you Randy

Hi Randy,

Please have a look here:

Project File, Screen-capture
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/SdaGgdRdTGXDtJJOZZ0WtGoBIHymqqAPgYHJBXIN5SV

The key here is to define the distance between black and white in that depth map, don’t set the two points too close to the scene objects.

There are other methods to create this. If you have any trouble, please share your scene file (zipped), and I will set it up for you.

My best wishes

Thank you Dr. That worked perfectly on my own file. Your provided example .c4d helped a lot. And thanks for the quick answer since I’m on deadline.

Great, Randy, you’re very welcome.

I’m glad the family of raccoons woke me up late in the night and made me read the emails. Thanks to these little marauders, I was able to support your deadline, I love it.

Have a great day, stay safe, stay healthy.
