Alembic Vertex Map Animation

Hello
I have an alembic file imported into c4d. It has some deformation animation, and also a vertex map animation.
I’d need to add extra vertex map to the geometry. So I baked the alembic file with the “a” tag, but I loose all the vertex map animations from the alembic. Is there any way to keep the vertex map animation baked?
Thanks
José

Hi José,

The Vertex tag has no option to store animations. So you will not get any baked Vertex Tag that can hold animations. The Alembic file format is providing for each frame (or even sub-frame) individual information.

My suggestion would be to harvest the information from the given Alembic Vertex Tag and use it in a new one. In this way, you keep the options of the Alembic file but also have the ability to add further information.

An example is here:

If you have any other questions, please share a Cinema 4D file or tell me what is different in your set up. I’m happy to look into it.

My best wishes and stay safe, stay healthy.

Hello Dr. Sassi
Thank you very much. That set-up works like a charm. I was using the xpresso preset “copy map” to copy the animated vertex map from the alembic to the new one.
That preset doesn’t seem to work with the alembic. But you xpresso setup works.
Thank you!
José
