Hi,

I tried lineup and boundary quad and manually rotate but each polygon getting separate in rotate.
Any way to make the uv straight… have to place film reel.

screen capture will be nice to understand.

Thanks,
Imran.

Hi Imran,

That a film-strip (celluloid or polyester, etc.) has to be reasonably stiff to work in-camera or in a projector is not a secret.
The file you have attached follows not that idea, and there is pretty much no way to make it work, certainly not with UV since the polygons are not following the characteristics of the material to begin with.

What I did was to harvest a Spline from an edge along the whole strip. Main Menu> Mesh> Conversion>Edge Selections to Spline

This spline is then used in a Spline Wrap under a Polygon (strip).
Inside the Spline Wrap, I fiddled a little bit with the Rotation Spline interface. To get the “images” of the filmstrip nearly in a rectangular shape.

You will find two versions, one that uses SDS and one that goes just with the Plane.
A screen-capture of file [11] is also attached, as requested.

I think that is very close to a filmstrip, a little bit adjustment on the rotation of the Spline wrap might improve it even more.

Have a great start into your week.
Stay safe, stay healthy.

Wow, very nice trick…. I did not thought of spline wrap. I will do this. Thanks.

Some how, in any other job if UV have to do straight…any trick for that….?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, Imran, you’re welcome.

Here is a little screen-capture

This is just a hint, not perfect.

As usual, it is not one method that covers all. Or one way that works always. The key is to be clear about what you need from the start. Of course, that is often clear in the middle of modeling. One idea would be to just leave the given model alone and recreate a model that has a straight UV naturally already. So I tried with your model. However, the point order is random. Which means, it is not simple to create with a Plane a similar polygon (straight) and swap just the UV out. More in detail, point numbers typically go up and down, then next, or left to right, etc. Yours jump back and for. You can see that in the Structure Manager, while in point mode. So to harvest from another object, the UV was not possible.

As a side note, I had to tweak the Spline Wrap a little bit more:
