“Loop” the Go to Next Frame

Hi,

Is there a way to “loop” the Go to Next Frame command?
Currently, with a preview range of 0-16, and currently at Frame 16, when you execute the command,
it goes to “literally” the next frame such as Frame 17.

You can see the problem here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/19ifs1jz9hjsahl/c4d225_loop_go_next_frame.mp4?dl=0

I don’t want that. I’m working on a cycle and it makes more sense if the next frame loops.
From Frame 16,  execute the command then we are now Frame 0.

Is there a way around this?

Thank you

Hi Ben,

If you are on the last frame, press the button that brings you back to the start.
There is no other option to my knowledge.

In case you think that is a problem and should be fixed:

Ben,

If I had to make a suggestion for that, I would say that at the last preview frame, the “next frame” click, while holding down the option/alt key, should bring this to the first frame of the preview range.

I would expect an answer that it is more work to press the option/ alt key than to just go to the most left-sided button. Perhaps I’m wrong with my expectations. wink

My best wishes.

Hi Dr. Sassi,

Thanks for the response.
Your previous and recent workaround presupposes that we know we are in the last frame.
For the most part, we don’t. In Maya, we just flip through the frames forward indefinitely.
We don’t worry if its the first frame or the last frame. Just so long it cycles.

No worries. No further action required.
I’ll just probably send this one as a suggestion or create a python command that recognizes if this is the last frame on the fly.

Hi Ben,

Who are we?

I can’t create things that are not given.
I also can’t find any signs over the past decades that there is any effort to morph Cinema 4D into Maya.
I hope you are happy anyway working in an application that you chose to use.

Cheers

Hi Dr. Sassi,

RE: Who are we?
Me and my work mates.

RE: morph Cinema 4D into Maya.
Cinema4D can stand on its own right.
I was thinking if there is a way to do it like Maya since admittedly it is a better workflow for making cycle animation.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for clearing the “we”, it was not clear if you speak now for the broader audience or for a group of people I’ don’t really know.

What is the better workflow, ask many artists, and you get many answers. This was so far my impression of any alpha/beta team I was or been part of.

I can’t really see that it would be to 100% the better way, as the current function allows us to have a short little excursion beyond the preview. However, I suggested a way that I could think of, even I believe to know already the reply to it.

I get that you like to have it differently, but to think that this would be an improvement for anyone (hence my question about the “we”), is highly doubtable, in this case.

Cheers
