Online tool - Control xPresso variables outside c4d

Hi there,

Hope you are well.
I’m by no means a programmer, being mainly an animator and designer.
I’ve built a setup/rig on xpresso that changes its configuration by changing a few variables.
It’s just making use of the xpresso nodes, no python or anything very clever in it.

I would like to non c4d users, to be able to insert those variables and get a preview on an online tool or external tool.

I want people to be able to insert measurements (integers in meters) online or in an external tool and get a preview of what’s happening.
Any way I can do this? I wonder if someone could point me in the right direction to what to study to achieve this?

Thank you very much.

All the best
Joao Monteiro

Hi Joao Monteiro,

I’m not clear about the input online part. Do you want to have that connected directly to your scene? Or is it an excel sheet like entry (e.g., Google Docs) and you load that document then in, manually, then share the result.

You can load ASCI based data into Cinema 4D. Then use those values based on an object. This object could be read out by Xpresso.

The only class I have ever taken about Python and external documents, was over at FXPHD, around eight years ago:
https://www.fxphd.com/details/339/
Look at part ten
I mentioned the eight years, as I’m not really clear if this class is working with the current build of Cinema 4D’s Python implementation. Things change.

However, if the initial question is based on the user put data into a form and has an online preview in that same moment, I think it is safe to say that Xpresso does not have that option at all.
How much the license allows even for such, I’m not aware of, as the app becomes utilized differently. Please clear this with Maxon.

The only way I can see anything like this to happen is by coding.
Maxon provides support for this here:
https://developers.maxon.net
There you can find a forum for the coding language you might need and indeed a friendly and knowledgable group of specialists.

My best wishes
