Spline Wrap Deformer for Non-Perpendicular Mesh?

Hi,

Is there a way for spline wrap to work for non-perpedicular mesh (i.e. mesh that is not 90/180 degree against the world axis).

You can see an illustration of the problem here:

Here’s what I wanted to achieve from Maya’s wire deformer:

You can check the illustration file here:

Thank you for looking at my problem.

Hi Ben,

The Spline Wrap is based on a Bounding Box. This box is based on X, Y, and Z. IF the polygons axis is not along its own Axis, it will be taken as is.

To align it, you could select some points on the Polygon object in question and use the:  Align Workplane to Selection.

Then call up the Spline Wrap. It will be on that Workplane. Position it and set it up as usual.

Then go back to the normal Workplane.

Here is my result of your file.

.

Use Shift+C and type in Bezier.
Perhaps that object helps to get what you need.

.

A Spline could be used to wrap a cube. This cube could be the base for a Mesh-Deformer.

.

There are perhaps other options, of course, not an exact copy of other 3d app features.
The Correction Deformer, in conjunction with the Magnet tool, it depends on what you need.

Eventually, this plugin can help:

All the best

Hi Dr. Sassi,

Thanks for the response.

I guess it confirms my hunch on the limitation of the spline deformer.

For instance, your workflow only works for a simple straight diagonal plane. How about if the plane is already bent to begin with?
In addition, when you move the spline driver, whether it’s set to Fit Spline or Keep Length, you get nasty result.
If you check again the Maya illustration, there’s no distortion.

Anyhow, thanks again for the response.

You’re welcome, Ben.

Even if I sound like a broken record, you might make a suggestion then. I’m not sure how far a tool can be just copied, as there are patents and whatnot.

I guess no package will ever have all tools as well as specific tools exclusively, it is just not how it works. A friend has made a more extended presentation about a year ago.
