Sweep Object scaling difficulty

I am trying to create the same profile for a scroll found inside a scroll compressor. You’ll notice in the attached reference image, the innermost portion of the scroll is larger. I have tried to match the scaling as best I could, but it’s very cumbersome having to adjust the End Scale past 100%, and then trying to play with the Scale spline. Is there a way to push the spline out of the 1.0 boundaries? Example file is below:

Hi Matt,

There is a simple way to overcome the 1.0 Spline interface limitations. Set the Profile Spline (Rectangle) to twice the size or just the Height parameter.
Then select the points of the Spline Interface, twirl open the option (the little > icon near Details> Scale) and set all points to Y=0.5. This will allow for a comfortable adjustment.

I have reversed one Helix, so the setups are equal.

In the linked files you will find a version 02 of this, where I created the shape needed, but made it editable (Current Stat To Object) and selected then the Middle Edges. Which allowed me then to convert the Selected Edges To Splines. (R21: Mesh> Conversations> Edge To Spline). With some care about the Spline (reverse one segment and close it then), I placed it into a MoSpline, to adjust the point amount.

You will find this MoSpline in use for the Extrude Object. This would be my way of modeling it. I might would use the Helix and create an R21: Spline> Clone> Create> Outline of it, and with some adjustments would have the shape needed.

All the best

Thank you so much! I didn’t even really know about the “Create Outline” function for splines, so this is quite helpful. I also never use MoSpline, but this makes for a nice use of it smile

You’re very welcome, Matt, thanks for the reply.

You might know it, but just to have mentioned it, the Spline>Smooth Tool has some very intriguing options. Carefully used they speed up the shaping process of a spline.
