Vertex Maps on Grow mode with Redshift,(Timing Issue)

Hi,

I am having a problem where I have a vertex map that has been animated using grow mode.

I am using the vertex map to transition between two materials in Redshift. (Using the RS vertex attribute node)

When I view the animation in the Redshift Render view everything looks fine. When I render out a frame to the picture viewer, everything is fine. But, when I render out a sequence the timing is all wrong. The vertex map runs a lot quicker than the actual animation.

I have heard that it is something to do with motion blur in Redshift. It does appear to be that.

Basically, I think what I am asking is: I understand that I can bake out the vertex map using a point cache tag but I have no idea how to bake it out so that Redshift can see it. If anyone can help that would be great, thanks.

(I understand that this is probably an issue with Redshift and so this might not be the correct place to post this, if this the case please accept my apologies)

Hi blairscott,

I have sent you an upload link to your PM box here on Cineversity.

One stable way would be to select the object in question and use the:
Object Manager> Objects> Bake as Alembic.

At the moment I get your file, I can take a look at how to bake a texture (clip) from it.

To my understanding, Cinema 4D’s Point Cache Tag has no idea about Vertex maps.

Cheers

Thanks for the file, blairscott, very much appreciated.

Here is a copy without any material, but baked via the above mentioned Alembic option.

Your file grows, while the Time-slider is moved, and it does so in any direction. Which is often a problem for many scenarios.

The file that I have linked to can be used without that constant grow effect. Each frame shows a specific state, no matter what. Please let me know if this is providing you with the result, you would like to have.

Here is a comparison between the two: (one minute long, clip #768)

If there is anything else, I’m happy to look into it.

Have a great weekend

It sure did.

Thanks again Dr Sassi,

Baking as Alembic worked a treat.

All I had to do then was drag the new baked vertex map from the Alembic file into the corresponding RS Vertex Attribute node and the timing on the rendered images was as it should be.

This also worked with the motion blur turned on.

Much appreciated!

You’re very welcome, blairscott, thanks for the feedback. (I use mostly the forums name, except the name is given in the forum.)

Thanks as well as for the information that Motion Blur worked with this. Great information!

My best wishes for your project.
