How do align the rotation of an object’s axis to a specific edge or face of one of its polygons?  In the attached, the object axis is not lined up to anything, I’d like to align it so that it is lined up to a corner of the cube.

The Axis Center is usually the way to go:

You can specify the axis with the X, Y, and Z sliders. If the axis is aligned, but not in the desired position, the Axis Tool needs to be active to move the axis around. If snapping is enabled, any point can be used.
