Spline basics question

Hi,this is pretty basic, but i dont quite understand c4d splines at its core level.
I have this scene and when i do “current state to object” or “connect objects and delete”, spline reveals all of its points. While original spline has only 4 points, when i do that i get the full adaptive points and i dont understand why.

Cheers!

Also, why my spline’s bounding box includes splines handles instead of points? For example in this image, i dont know how to make pivot automatically align perfect to the bottom of my spline.

Hi thanulee,

Thanks for the files!

The points that you get after converting the Spline are points that might have been calculated continuously before. You can see the effect of those points when you place them in a Sweet or Lathe object. Set the Spline to Adaptive for example. While you change the shape of the Spline these Intermediate points will move, to get the best and most efficient distribution. Think of it as a rule, if the direction changes more than X degree, then place a new point.

At the moment you convert the Spline these will become editable points. The function is gone.

Why the handles are in the Bounding Box is not documented. For me, the handles are part of the setup and the point of the handle part of the shape defining elements. What you can do (do it on a copy, just in case) set the spline from Bezier to Linear, use the Axis Center to set the axis as you wish, and then go back to the Bezier. Do not use any other Spline options (e.g., Akima), as they will overwrite the Bezier settings.

All the best

Thank u dear sir! So i cant keep the 4 bezier points i have after collapsing a generator? It would make my life a lot easier when modelling and collapsing splines as with the symmetry.

Thanulee,

The Symmetry might look like something perfect after it is gone and leaves you with two Spline. Are they useable? Yes, but only to a certain degree.

The first problem is that you have in the center two points in the same position. If that is a Bezier, which one to set up, and how to keep it in sync with the other one.
The next point is the Spline direction. You symmetrically perfect copies, including the Spline direction, Which might cause trouble in many cases.

Here is a screen-capture how I would get a symmetrically Spline, based on your scene, and have it pristine for any further step, no matter what.

You’re very welcome, thanulee, thanks for the kind feedback.

Let me know if there is anything else.

Enjoy your project.
