clones falling into position

I have a scene where I want to move clones from up above into the final position. In general this works fine.
I now wanted to add some randomnes to the scene, so I used a random field on top of my linear field set to overlay which works fine, except the clones that are already “activated” don’t move linearly to their final position. They slightly ease into the position which normaly is fine for me but I would like it to more feel like falling into place. I guess there is a technically answer to why they behave in this way. But is there also a way to get the clones into there final position more linearly?
Is there another way to activate them randomly?
I have attached a simplified scene file. Thanks for your help grin

Hi Maui,

The Random part of your set up moves the sprinkles already down (for some), which was the duty of the Linear Field. In return, the Linear Field has not so much to do anymore. The Overlay, means, that the effect on lower values is like Multiply and above middle value, it works like Screen.

My suggestion would be to adjust the shape of the Linear Field Object> Attribute Manager> Remapping> Contour. (See screenshot.)

In that way the sprinkles start falling slowly but have a good speed close to the floor, not landing on a pillow anymore.

Let me know if that works for you of if we have to look into a different setup.

All the best

Interessting. I thought the main work would still be done by the linear field and the random would just be applied on top as it is a transfer mode.

Thanks again for your help that will probably do the trick

Maui,

Yes, the animation will be based on the Linear, but the Parameter of the Plain Effector will move the clones based on both Fields.  The Linear and the Random are connected via Blendmodes, see file below:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/u8UiyCfVpwzyR2bucw6rylTnxXaCvkQt1rN9LD6f0kf

The Multiply shows the effect from the start that Random moves the sprinkles (clones) down from the start. The overlay will do so when the value of the linear falls below 50%. So the Random part accelerates towards the middle, but then slows down. Which resulted in the effect that you like to avoid in your initial scene. Hence my suggestion to change to the curve to counteract this.

The file above shows clearly that the Overlay combines both over time.

All the best
