motion blur and enable/disable objects

setup:  i have two objects rotating.  rendered with motion blur in r19 physical.  I turn off one and turn on the other, but this causes the motion blur to break on the disable/enable frame.

The result I am looking for is to have one or both objects blurring on that frame (frame5).  renders included in zip.

Do you have any suggestions?  Thanks!

Hi SethO,

Here is you file back:
scene file

To switch thing on will not work as long as the keyframe is in the middle of the frame. Think of the motion blur as something that extends from the middle point. Based on Shutter Speed/Shutter Angle, the information is just missing. You could mess with the Camera Settings, but I doubt that it is a good idea.

The only way to get it done, is to move the keyframe of the switch. (See image.)

In the scene file above I switched as well, but I think more “natural” would be to animate the color shader for that frame as well, if you are really picky.

All the best

Thank you, Dr Sassi!

Question: by animating the color shader, do you mean the alpha channel?

Hi SethO,

I have used a Color Shader in the Alpha channel, to have animate-able parameters for the effect that a “black to white” (or vice verse) animation would have. Yes, that is one solution to the problem.

Cheers
